Anthology of Interest

I installed Gallery after discovering that it did not require MySQL. I already have a database server and don't need another! Gallery stores all it's data on the filesystem, so I figured I would try it out. It seems to work well for Walter and Marli after all.

UPDATE: I had a major malfunction (or at least it seemed that way at the time) while trying to upload photos to Galley. There is this Java applet thing that you can use to upload photos to gallery. I went throught my collection with gThumb and added them one at a time to this java applet, but by the time I went to upload the pictures, my session had timed out due to inactivity. I accidently left the page with the java applet when I went to log back in, and the applet closed, losing all my selections! I had to go through the collection a second time. I just used the web form and uploaded 2 at a time to make sure the session didn't time out. That was kind of annoying.

When I was a kid, I always wanted to have glasses. I think a nice pair of glasses can look really good, and I occasionally find them quite fetching (on women... such as my wife). I once went so far as to lie to the optometrist just a little bit. I didn't lie enough though, and I didn't get glasses. One of Tamara's friends from Calgary did get herself some glasses when she was a kid, but of course the prescription screwed up her vision and gave her headaches, so she never wore them. In retrospect, having grown up a little, I'm glad I didn't waste my parents money like that.

Fortunately my vision is still very good, even after years of heavy computer use. I'll probably have to retract that statement in my 40's or 50's though (both of my parents need glasses). In any case, I was for some reason inspired to try on Tamara's spare glasses, which she never wears because the frames look really wide on her head. How do I look in glasses? Thank goodness I don't have to wear them all the time!

Unfortunatly for us, our colds that were almost gone came back with a vengance after the reception. I'm feeling worse today than I have all week. Being sick sucks. It's a good thing we have a flat of chicken noodle soup.

It's been a long month and a half. Tamara and I flew to Calgary on the 21st of December for Christmas. We actually managed to get most, if not all, of our Christmas shopping done before we left this year. Good thing too, since there wasn't a whole lot of time for running around before Christmas. I did a little work, and there was a lot of running around to visit people and stuff.

Tamara and I a back from two weeks in Cuba. Tamara's sister got married there. I'll write it up properly later, but for now, here are some photos we took.
