Actually with the latest iteration of iPhoto, it can handle up to 25,000 photos, but I don't know if that's where it chokes or if that's the absolute upper limit.
Either way, the 100 or so shots I take a month aren't going to max that out anytime soon. Oh, and as far as using Fast User Switching (or simply multiple accounts on the same machine) I looked into how to share the same iPhoto library between the two users.
I almost made it work but gave up. I thought I'd heard of other people making a complete solution, and after a quick search I found this. http://captnswing.net/howto/iphoto/ This seems to work with iphoto2 and iphoto4 (iPhoto4 resets the library permissions each time its launched I think).
