Star Wares

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith will probably break even on the merchandising and cross-promotion deals alone, even if no one goes to see the movie. Of course, it made a record amount of money on Thursday, and Tamara and I chipped in. We attended an afternoon matinee, and lined up outside for a while after arriving about an hour early. There were already people lining up for the 6 o'clock shows, but the line wasn't very long for us. Went we came out, it was practically wrapped around the theater!

For what it is, a cheesy, special effects laden, good vs. evil epic, it's not bad. I enjoyed it, perhaps in part because I was determined to. There are lots of naysayers out there talking trash about it, and from what I've read, their points are valid. I couldn't help but notice some continuity errors, and the droid personalities bothered me a bit. Star Wars has always had droid personalities of course, and the R2D2 / C3PO banter has always been enjoyable.

SPOILERS...

The rapid change in Palpatine annoyed me. I mean, episodes IV, V, and VI take place at least 20 years in the future, but Palpatine changes from the Chancellor to the Emperor in appearance in a matter of seconds. The Emperor's acting was just silly, as was Darth's drawn out "Nooooo!" Mace Windu decides to kill the Chancellor after Skywalker tells him he is the Sith lord they have been looking for, which I think is out of character for a Jedi Master, especially after Skywalker argues with him about it.

The way Padmé died annoyed me, because I think that having children would have revitalized her will to live. I would have been better if Darth Vader had done more serious damage to her than just choking her with the force. Also, Leia later says she remembers her mother, but she was clearly only minute old when she died.

Sadly, Lucas' obsession with noisy, annoying animals continues, this time in the form of a big lizard which Obiwan rides.

I did like Yoda's foreshadowing mention of Darth Vader's eventual turn against the Emperor. There was other cool stuff too, but I've already forgotten some of it!

Oh well, I'll still probably see it again at some point. The music, CGI ships (Naboo cruisers rule), and light sabres are always entertaining, even if the dialog is cheesy and the plot is questionable.

I just got back from watching the movie with my bro Ryan and Sister in Law Cammy. A quick respose to your SPOILERS...

The drawn out Nooooo and stuff were a bit silly. That is just the drama that Lucas seems to bring out every movie. Like in Empire when Luke gets his arm cut off. Lets face it a Star Wars film is about the cool new movie making gadgets not the acting.

You talk about how Padmé died and how it was annoying. Well right before she dies she says

Obi-Wan . . . there . . . is good in him. I know there is ... still . .
A last gasp, and she dies. Then Obi-Wan studies the necklace that Ani made her in the first one.

It is like now that she has the children and they are in the hands of Obi-wan and Yoda that they will grow up learning the force and there may be a chance to save Ani from the Dark side.

Leia later says she remembers her mother. This is true but she says she has only memories images. She says that she was very beautifull but always seemed to be sad. So I guess it was something that she picked up when she was being carried in the womb.

So maybe this has given you a different point of view.
